HELP PHC BY BUYING STUFF

We don't charge for our rides and have never asked for any donations. It costs about £120 a year to run the club. This covers our insurance and the costs of running the website. The club has been awarded a couple of grants and has done sub-contract work which has covered these costs to date. However, if you want to help us to keep going, you can make us some money by clicking through on any of the links below.

BOOKS

RURAL RIDES Ron Strutt has written the best cycle rides guides I've ever seen. Not only does he find excellent routes, he also throughly researches the history of the places he takes you to. This isn't just snippets gathered from the internet, there are sometimes full pages of fascinating facts that many locals probably don't even know. I doubt there's a lane or bridleway in Surrey that Ron hasn't travelled. Buy these books with confidence - they're the best you'll ever find. And shame on the publisher for not bringing out any subsequent volumes.

NICK COTTON Nick has devised routes for cyclists all over the UK. He has published around 30 books, all of which offer great routes. Take your pick from the selection below, all of which offer rides within easy reach of Mitcham.

ON YOUR BIKE IN SURREY Valerie Bennett's glossy colour book has some very familiar routes, including a nice Epsom Downs ride. Lovely summer photos and good descriptions make you want to try all of them!

CYCLECRAFT There is no excuse for not owning this book. Without it, you're lacking the knowledge to cycle safely on the roads. Published by the Stationery Office and the basis for the government's National Standards for cycling. Buy it and read it!

THE NORTH AND SOUTH DOWNS Nick Cotton isn't the only person to have written a book for cyclists about the Downs. The South Downs is the ultimate off-road challenge - 96 miles and 13600ft of climbing!

MAINTAIN YOUR OWN BIKE The best book on the market for fixing and maintaining your bike? Others seem to think so. Buy it and let us know. You'll soon be fixing your own gears and brakes - if not check the Resources page for local mechanics.
